Idaho River Cabin Memories
Fun times for all at our river cabin this weekend. However, like many Montecucco vacations, this one seemed to turn into quite the adventure! We started the vacation at approximately 12:30 by meeting at the Sicilia home for our departure. Ray, Laura, Sydney (3) and Finley (1) agreed to partake with us. We threw down some hot pizza and hit the road. Note: when traveling with two 3 year olds, be ready for lots of potty breaks! I think we made it about 40 minutes out of Spokane before Joey needed to go "pottie". And whenever Joey needed to go, Syndey, in the car behind us would of course need to go to. Our 3 1/2 hour trip was easily 5 hours!
When approaching the cabin we were stopped by the ranger and had to wait for a pilot car to take us past a forest fire. Luckily it was on its way out, but just 4 miles from our cabin. Needless to say, after finally arriving at the cabin Laura and I decided to go ahead and do our one dinner out that night! We unloaded, made the beds and bopped down to the River Dance Lodge just a mile down the road in Syringa. A storm was brewing as well and we sure thought it was cool watching the wind blow (really blow!) out the window of the cafe as we feasted! Joey and Sydney entertained some guests with a few song performances, it was priceless. As we slurped down our last swish of wine and paid the tab... another adventure awaited us.
Driving back to the cabin Tom began noticing quite a few down trees and as we pulled up the driveway there was a tree right over where the cars would have been! YOWZA! There were also two trees down on top of our power line, which meant no power for the night! Good thing our friends still like us. We fired up the candles, but boy was it a humid night. The cabin was roasting, two kids had nightmares and sleep was not welcomed. Luckily the next morning breakfast was skillfully made by Tom on the bbq and things started looking up. The beach for example, was...GREAT!

At the beach it was hard to remember the no power, no fridge, no hot water, trees everywhere! Tom went and bought a chainsaw and cleared a path for the power company, however he was sure they would not come over the weekend. Low and behold around 4:00 we were graciously surprised with their presence and...POWER! So the weekend would continue, because Laura and I were a bit on the fence with staying another night! I was ready to feed these boys as much salmon and beer as they needed. Luckily they still had 3 more stops to make and we enjoyed a fabulous salmon dinner, with light!
We could be found: swimming, splashing, fishing, moving rock, catching minnows with the net, checking out crawdads, relaxing, playing in innertubes, sitting around the campfire and enjoying the company of good friends. What a great way to sadly say goodbye to our summer.

But as mentioned, this was an adventure, clear up to the last 40 miles where our friends got a flat tire! And of course the closest gas station doesn't have air for the spare tire, no, we have to hoof it clear back to Colfax! Just when we were about to set a better time record too! Joey went to bed tonight at 6:45 and Tom and I are on our way. We are tuckered for sure but you just can't beat the beach, smiles and friends. Happy September everyone!
